When it comes to requirement-based assessments, assessors often end up collecting data they don’t need because assessment fields apply to every requirement by default. This creates unnecessary steps and irrelevant inputs, and slows down the entire process, especially when different requirements demand different levels of detail. Our new assessment rules capability solves this by giving assessors greater flexibility and control over their assessment workflows, creating a smoother experience from start to finish. Let’s take a closer look at how this feature works and the value it brings to your audit and compliance processes.
What are the benefits?
For many risk and compliance professionals, assessments can feel rigid and repetitive. Reviewers gather more information than they need, and respondents spend extra time navigating questions that don’t apply to them. Assessment rules change this by giving assessors granular control over how each question or requirement is handled, allowing assessments to adapt dynamically based on responses and compliance context.
Here’s how this capability helps improve the assessment process:
- Contextual assessments: Configure rules to add or remove specific assessment fields or requirements based on user responses. This results in a streamlined experience tailored to each respondent’s compliance context.
- More focused responses: Reduce clutter by only showing fields that matter, making assessments cleaner and more straightforward.
- Speed and efficiency: Setting rules makes assessments faster and easier for both assessors and respondents, paving the way for more efficient workflows and accelerating audit readiness.
- Better data quality: By only showing relevant fields, respondents provide more accurate and meaningful information, improving the overall quality of assessment data.
- Consistency across assessments: Rules help maintain uniform logic across similar assessments, ensuring consistent decision criteria and reducing the chances of oversight or error.
How to use assessment rules
From the Audits & Assessments module on the 6clicks platform, select the requirement-based assessment you want to apply rules to. On the Assessment Builder page, navigate to the Rules tab, then click Create Rule. This lets you set the name of the rule, the conditions, and the corresponding action, which is either to display or hide a specific field when those conditions are met.

With this feature, users can take advantage of capabilities such as:
- Rule configuration: Create rules to hide or display assessment fields based on user responses and the specific requirements being assessed. This includes:
-
- Condition setting: Define multiple conditions within a rule (e.g., when SoA is N/A, when response is Partially Compliant) to trigger an action for relevant assessment fields. Easily define the values of each condition by choosing from custom fields, which are automatically filtered based on the specific control or authority associated with the assessment.
-
- Action setting: Set which assessment fields to hide or display when conditions are met (e.g., when SoA is N/A, then hide Explanation).
- Automated workflows: Automatically skip or display assessment fields when a response satisfies the predefined rule.
In addition to the current show-and-hide capabilities, upcoming enhancements will extend assessment rules even further, giving assessors more options to guide responses based on defined conditions.
Overall, assessments become more targeted, efficient, and easier to complete, helping organizations reduce assessment overhead and strengthen the quality of evidence collected across programs.
